My hubby likes auctions. I can’t throw stones, I like craft and book stores. We all have our things. One thing we have been hoping to find is a new table for our breakfast nook. The one we have is…on its last legs. Pun fully intended. It’s one my mother bought for me when I moved apartments back in maybe 2007? It has served its time.
This last auction was online, but as luck would have it, netted us a round table with four chairs for the bargain price of $28. That’s a steal. It had some flaws, sure, but we could fix those. So we brought it home and I began my quest to remake the table.

Take a moment to appreciate that 90s Golden Oak finish
I was determined to do the thing properly. I sanded, applied wood putty to the places where the veneer had chipped. Sanded some more. And then I applied high-hide primer, three coats worth. Then the final sanding. At last, I was able to apply the actual paint. So much paint.

Finally got all that golden oak covered. Then I started with coats of polyacrylic. I had put too much into this table to have it wrecked the first time a cat jumped on it.
The table and chairs are finally finished and ready to go into the breakfast nook. After I get the trim repainted and the floors mopped. I swear, as much painting as I do, you would think I’d be better at it. But I am pretty proud of this table. Husband says I can start flipping furniture as a side hustle. Um, no.
